The hardwoods in Newt Livesay Hickory Fighting Canes are grown right here in the Ozark Mountains. These hardwoods are hand picked at the sawmill from saw logs for their structural appearance before being sawed into long squared blanks. Sawed blanks are graded again, and only the very best structurally sound blanks from the second grading are set aside to dry in specially designed stacks that lend themselves too superior cured blanks. Only after a lengthy period, these now cured wooden blanks are checked once more for knots, holes, cracks, or other blemishes that might cause a finished product to fail. Once accepted these cured blanks are then fed into a specially designed sander that makes cane-blank rounds. The family owned company has been making these cane blanks for over one hundred and fifty years, right here in the hardwood forest of the oldest mountains in America, the Ozarks.
Once turned to size the cane-blanks are checked once more for imperfections before having one end steamed so that the hand crook can be formed into the product. Once more, the cane is dried to set the curl or hand crook into the end of the stick before the cane being removed and once more being sanded before being placed for sale. I buy cane blanks directly from the only family or mill that still bends cane blanks. It does not matter who you are or who you think you are, if you want quality cane blanks you buy them from this family or a distributor of this family. That is the final word on the BULL SH_T argument that my cane is bigger or better than yours slash penis-envy-whining. (I am not real Politically Correct - I believe in telling it like it is) I personally go directly to the sawmill and buy my blanks IN PERSON by looking directly at the wood, and putting my hand on the blanks, unlike some. Sometimes a blank makes it almost totally through the manufacturing process before I catch an imperfection; these canes are sawed into and destroyed. I personally look for grain structure, and the cut of the wood trying to determine the age and overall condition of the blank. I think this commitment leans it self too canes of superior strength, and appearance at DECENT PRICES.
Thank you for your time, and consideration of my products, I truly appreciate it.
